"when people talk about oak chips, can just any old olk chip be tossed in, for say, rum? I got lots of oak trees, be easy to just chop up some wood.

Or doe they have to be special trreated or something?"

"It needs to be white oak,and aged,not green.Go to walmart and buy some jack danniels smoker chips.There made from whiskey barrels,and are ready to use.You dont have to toast them.There $3.88 a bag,and a bag goes a long way.
