"Tonight is my 1st time carbon filtering. Seems to take forever for the spirits to run thru. I could probably drink 'em faster than they drip out :-(

"That"s why I built this filter. Just pour it in the hopper and walk away. Takes 4+ hours. Taking a long time is a good thing however. The longer the contact with carbon the more it is filtered. http://home.comcast.net/~sailorboy2/dst_pics/filter.jpg"

"Here are a couple to try. Howie is still looking for a better filter, and we might both get carbon snakes:
1. Follow the carbon book and fully wash until water is crystal clear. 3 boils and several rinses. expect to lose some before its clean.
2. Don't use special filter papers, they clog too easy. Regular Coffee filters let black sediment through. Get a box of melita coffee filters #2s and cut papers from the two layers.
3. Change papers every session or whenever you notice the drip slows way down."
