"Sorry Dicentral, you have made the same mistake many make starting out. Either you need to start for a few times with a turbo, or add your own healthy choices. A nutrient source like DAP, 2 or 3 tbs. of tomato paste, 2 qts orange or grapefruit juice or some bought nutrients. Then you need some vitamins, like one a day, crushed up and added (so the little critters don't catch their death of cold). This all needed for them to stay healthy and do their work. Doesn't take much, but is neccessary. The baeano is a waste in a sugar wort, especially if you inverted it with acid. There you did it right with some added acid. I think, though you need a full boil then a simmer for 15 min. or so, at least till it gets a nice amber color, light, to it.

I would add a bit of nutrients and a touch of vitimins mixed in a bit of water, but very slowly, and carefully, like a kid getting medicine, it will vomit all over you. You will see what I mean. Otherwise, you are most likely to get a stuck fermantation.

Ha, Half the fun of this is the learning curve.

Thats funny you take better care of these yeast cells than I do for myself!,I did put it in a much warmer room that helped some but still no active boil like when making beer. Thanks for the advice.I used reg yeast 'cause some here said turbos give it a farty [sulphur]taste!

"I have made over a hundred runs useing the 48 hour turbo, and never had any problems with sulphur. I do find it neccessary to let it sit for a long while, or add sparkaloid to settle and clear it before running. Thats where you get off flavors if you don't.

Yeah, grains for beer have plenty of nutrients and vitamins that sugar has none of. They are easy and cheap to add though.

Yeast selection is critical if you attempt more than a 9% wort, asyeasts can't handle anything higher, and ome, will get so distressed that they give of a lot of offs, and can leave sugar for your boiler to burn. I've had good luck with ec 1118."

Happy children love to play. Wineo has suggested 2 drops of gerital liquid is ideal for the vitamins and minerals, and a jar would last for year(s). No crushing and no after taste. One multi is plenty for up to 25 L.

Glad you are seeing results."

"No, no no. You only want to add the least amount of nutrients they will need, or you will start getting some serious off flavors from extra nutrients in the wort when distilling. Beans are good for you, eat too many and all your friends will leave you. You won't be their favorite fragrance.

To quote UJ"": Moderation; aye sir moderation is my rule. Nine or ten is reasonable refreshment, but after that it's apt to degenerate into drinking."

Well I guess I got lucky, because my 10 lb sugar wash, after working for 2 wks., distilled and tastes pretty good for a 1st timer, however yield was poor only about 4.3% ethanol probably becauseI used bakers yeast.? I personally like the corn wash I did previous to this it has a wonderful ,very slightly musty corn aftertaste,BigGrin
