"Relatively new to distilling, so far I've done 2 washes & both came out with about 6 qts of 90 to 95% each time from 25L washes. I use a column type internal reflux packed with copper & ceramic that I built myself with plans on a website.

Question 1: It seems the simplest way to carbon filter is to just put some carbon in the jar with the distillate cut to about 50%. If so how much carbon should I put in a 1 quart jar and for how long?

Question 2: I've tried cutting to 50% with store bought distilled water, my product becomes cloudy after doing this, Do I have bad distilled water?

Question 3: Gonna try El Rickos rum next. How do I do this with an internal reflux without stripping the flavor away?

I appreciate any help with these questions, your help & expertise has gotten me this far already...

John"

What water are you using to cut your distilled spirit?

I had the same problem. A haze and a day later a precipitate at the bottom. I have great spring mountain water. Got a brix water filter and never had the problem again. My hooch was actual 95%. For me it was the water. Didn't effect the taste. Put it into the freezer, and it will all precipitate and you can pour it off. Filtering the water works though. Also, realize, you need to cut your product and let it rest and marry, for a week or so before drinking. Makes a differnence."

I had a simmilar problem, does your product get cloudly after sitting in a jar for awhile,
if so, i started using the stone carbon filter from brewhous and it solved the problem, but only for a neutral sprit, it will partially strip flavor from other washes

still tippin
