Why will an alcohol meter not measure wine alcohol content?

Wine contains components that build the body and mouthfeel, which increase the density of the product. As an alcoholmeter essentially reads density, this will result in a false reading.

I have a jar of shine with peaches in it how would I check alcohol content.Would like to duplicate it. Thanks
