"I just bought a bag of stone carbon. I plan to toss some in the jar with my final product. I can't find any clear cut instructions for preparing the carbon for use. They say soak, rinse, boil, etc... This is new virgin activated stone carbon. What do I do, step by step?

Can anyone help out here?

Thanks
John"

Hey John ,, nothing wrong with putting some carbon into your finished product,, (you can take carbon pills to absorb poisons in the body ),, the instructions( soak , rinse , boil) refers to using a long funnell or a tube with a funnell on top ( filter ),, I was told to fill the tube with water and slowly add the carbon into the tube and tap it as you fill to void all air pockets , the reason for the water is so that your product wont funnell down the inside of the tube ,and filter down through the carbon. the reason for boiling is to activate the carbon ,, (open it up ) carbon acks like a sponge to absorbe the unwanted . after you start with water at the top of the tube , you add your product in the funnell ( remember , no air pockets ) once the product pushes the water through and your product comes along ( disreguard the water) keep the good stuff ,( taste as you go to make the cut ) but your not done yet ! watch the product in the funnell, once it leaves the funnell but still at the top of the tube , add more water to help push the product on through , again taste to make the cut.. hope this helped . please excuse the spelling , I didn't do good in school ,, would rather be out making things ,,:-) PS , see what rick sells in the way of a funnell and tube, I bought one . works good , will hold a gal. at a time !

"When working on my carbon filter, I had to stop and fix a leak I had in the drain for my sink in the basement (where I have my work area set up).

I noticed that the plastic drain piping is just about the same dia as the carbon filter piping. That opens up a lot of possibilities for mounting and configuring! (Like the Z filter).

It may help out a lot with cost as well. Just a thought."

I tried carbon filtering by putting the carbon directly into the alcohol.
I failed because
I NEGLECTED TO RINSE THE CARBON A FEW TIMES IN BOILING WATER TO REMOVE THE DUST.

There is a free E BOOK on the brewhaus website

Carbon does not work through a positive - negative attraction, so putting the carbon into the spirit will have little effect. You need to force the spirit through the carbon in order to trap contaminants in the pores.
