"very new to this just recently ordered my first bunch of stuff from Rick,
anyway got the alcholmeter and has no directions besides the tiny stuff on
the neck. how do you read this correctly.

Just fill the tube 3/4 of the way with your distillant, drop in your meter. The distillant level will be your mark for what the percentage of alcohol it is.

"thanks for the reply tiki. I think that I might of got things out of context.
I've done the drop into the measuring beaker, and it floats around the 72 mark;
Question is how to calculate the proof of the hooch, is it 70 proof??"

"your alcohlmeter measures percentage not proof. proof is half of percent. so your 72% is 144 proof. percentage is referred to as abv (alcohol by volume).
You want to be real careful with this. here is a link that is great. http://homedistiller.org/frontpage.htm. it has an answer for most questions.
