What's the run time difference between using the 1.5kW electric & a propane burner? I have a turkey cooker I could use, but the wife thinks I should use the elec (think she's afraid I might burn down the house, & thus says if I use propane I have to go 100 ft away from the house)

Was thanked: 8 time(s) in 8 post(s)
The actual speed of distillation will not change, regardless of your heat source (providing you get enough heat from it, that is). The limits will be imposed by the column size and design, as well as your column packing.

it does for me. takes about 90 minutes to get to temp, then it is just fine. I also removed the thermostat and added my own rheostat

the 1500 works just fine for me also and I never even played with the thermo. I keep it cranked and use the water valve to adjust temp.

So I intend to use a propane burner apparatus but intend to stay with it. I am contemplating the distance from still to flame. Do not wish to burn. Anyone use a propane rig?Confused

I have used propane for a long time. Best heat is usually at the edge of the flame (if the air ratio on your burner is correct). No big worries with burning anything.
