"What size are you thinking of??
I sure would like to know if you have really done your homework on barrel aging.
I have 3 small ones.. I tested them with water and i'm not willing to share what the angels take.

Mine are only 1 liter and 5 liters. Nice decorations though.BigGrin

Thanks for reply. As usual I didn't do any homework on the subject. I was Jyst thinking of getting 3 5 liter ones to do some ageing. I was looking at 1000 oaks barrels website.

The angels share was just too much. I dont think you will like barrels for that reason. I have been using oak chips till the booze changes color. I dont know much about aging. I modify my whiskeys with 1 drop of vanilla and 3 drops of glycerine per fifth.

I cheat whenever i can.

I read where in the remote areas where alcoholic beverages are transported long distances by pack mule to get to ships. The quality of the beverage is noticably improved because of the sloshing.

I have been looking fo some vibrating device that i can attach to a carboy and just let it run for a month or two.

No luck except for extremely expensive commercial devices."

If you live somewhere that will let you hang it from a tree it will shake when the wind blows. You could try it with a small qt jar first just to see if it helps or not.

Give these folks a try:

http://oakbarrelsltd.com/20-lit...th-galvanized-hoops.html

They sell all different sizes, but pay a couple bucks more and purchase with galvanized hoops...the others can rust. After 5 or 6 spirit agings of a couple months each, fill er up with some home brew for a lot more flavorful runs!

Stronger it is the faster it should leach out flavors from the wood. Appears to work that way on the vice versa barrel in a jar strategy anyway. Seems like Fed Law regarding bourbon requires the hooch be less than 140 proof going in..not sure about the low end figure. Should be fine at 80 just take a bit longer most likely. What kinda wash you using here? Notice addendum's such as a little cornmeal or sweet feed etc. gives it more of a whiskey wallop than a neutral neutral. Chipped up a batch of that one time and never did seem to develop the flavor profile being sought at the time. Keep us updated. Now are the barrels charred on the inside..hopefully? Thanks.

It's charred med + and are 5 liters. I'm sure it won't be perfect but I like what I get from adding charred smoking chips to a quart so I'm hoping it will come out a bit better tasting.

Wow..you Boys like to keep them Angels well supplied. Now if somebody ever give me a nice charred barrel..I would whack it up with the Skill saw and stuff it in the jars. Cant no Angel get in there I dont think..lol. J/k..sure Angels can go where they are sent. Make you drop a jar on the floor sometimes most likely. I would not shun them by any means.

Hey try Big Lots. Best deal in town on jars in this neck of the woods. You start ordering yup barrels you will get a bad reputation etc. Could lose your redneck credentials..gasp. Lol. Not sure why some cant pull out a little Testosterone and learn to like White Dawg? It makes life so much simpler. Dont make me come down there. Thanks. Scotty seems to be a stick in the mud on our cane crushers. lol.
