I think that is the key for me..... try to get a slow consistent ferment. So far even with the turbos I have had pretty long ferment times by controlling the ferment temps. I have always had good tasting runs or rather no taste....lol. That is running reflux with raschig rings though. I agree that the filter can't hurt but so far haven't needed it luckily.

I put all my shine in a 2 gallon tea pitcher and dropped a copper mesh plug in there let it sit for two days and the smell is gone....thanks y'all

Ok ... there's some evidence of copper sulphate. So it's a good bet that you'll be able to avoid the smell altogether with a copper plug or two in your vapor path. The best part is: if you forget ... just break out the magic tea pitcher! :)

I had the copper mesh to use as a plug in my still but never tried it but I will be using it now
