"I've been banned from fermenting inside the home so I built an insulated box so I can keep it in the shop. We tend to get some very cool nights so I figure some insulation and a light bulb would be handy. Also, rather than open the front cover all the time I installed an indoor/outdoor thermometer and I ran a short hose through the top to mount the air lock where I can watch it. This is day number 8 on the sugar wash fermenter. I'm just slowly buliding my self-reliant refreshment center." i use a thermo well and a brew belt with an electric blanket to maintain my 65 degrees minimum. im a slow fermenter die hard:)"

"I don't have any special controls, I only have a light bulb that I plug in or unplug so I have to admit the temp. will fluctuate about 5 degrees.
The brew belt sounds interesting, I'll have to check into that.
I got the idea about slow brewing from you and it just sounds like the proper thing to do."

if i had that box to use i believe that i would stick with the light bulb and get a temp control. they are about 79 dollars however. i doubt that your 5 degree fluctuation is of any concern.

After a bit of help from JB on a distiller problem I found that you can control power to the bulb with an rsc. If your like the rest of us you may already have one. Maddawgs

I've got some walk-in cooler panels that are 3-1/2" thick with 1/4" hard board on each side and a Styrofoam center I have used them to construct an insulated box for use in cold weather with great results.
My problem is that I have too much traffic thru my shop(never know whose gonna pop in) so I finally convinced the wife to let me move back into the house.
I have an 8x12 utility building that my reloading operation is set up in but it gets awful crowded with two fermintors setting it the floor.
I'm planning to build a dedicated still house soon,It's going to have a chicken coop on the front as a disguise with my room on the rear. With chickens you always have some type of grain, and with a grain mash you always have some chicken feed!

I'm just slowly buliding my self-reliant refreshment center. I think that is a great set up. Have you thought about a seed germination pad (Flea-Bay $30)? Those are temp controlled with a thermo probe. I like your set up and am thinking of building that for my mashes that I want to keep at a higher temp during the fringed months.
