Essential Extractor PSII High Capacity recirculating pump issues?

"I purchased a Essential Extractor PSII High Capacity- Complete Distiller and the recirculating pump stopped working on the first run. It worked for about an hour, and then started to go on and off by itself. After about 20 minutes of that it stopped all together. Luckily I had a garden hose nearby so I could keep going. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue, or if it was just my bad luck.  "

only time mine doesn't work is when it is not completely submerged

This one had suction cups that held it to the bottom on the tank. I didn't see any serviceable parts. On a typical fish tank pump you can clean the rotor and replace worn parts, but this one is sealed. I think it would be good for Brewhaus to know if their supplier is sending defective pumps. Maybe I was just the one unlucky guy.

Mine had an issue a couple of hours into it's first run as well.
I disconnected it and tried it in another outlet and it still didn't work.
Started working again in a few minutes.
Thought maybe thermal shut off.
How warm was your cooling water?
That first run it got up to 27C-28C.
I had no problems with the second run as I made sure to keep the temp below 25C.

I don't know the exact temperature but it was cool to the touch and I had two blocks of ice floating in it. I too thought it might be a thermal issue. Maybe just set too low?

I went through a lot more ice than I thought I would during the course of the run.
In fact I ran out and had to start changing out the water to keep the temp decent.
I had a thermometer in my coolant tank to keep an eye on the temp.
The second run I used a larger container for the water and I froze 5" of water in the bottom of the bucket. Still went through a ton of blocks made in 2# margarine containers to keep the temp down. Wish I could just run a hose but I'm on tank water and would run out in a hurry.

That's interesting because mine never really got that hot. I have an 8 gal and had about 5 gal of wash in it. Brought to a boil and then lowered the temp on my burner. The top of the column never went past 80C, and was pretty much maintained around 78C. I kept the water flow at about 50% by turning the valve closed half way. The only time the water got hot was when the pump stopped working and I had to switch to the garden hose.
I could see the water flowing through the hoses, so I don't think there was blockage.
I may buy another pump to have on hand and try this one again.

You're absolutely right. I googled the model number and the pump is sold in bulk quantities from China at a fraction of the cost of a typical fish tank pump that size (500GPH). Piece of junk. It's a shame because everything else seems to be very good quality.

I live in the north east. It gets pretty cold up here. Not like Yellow Knife but pretty cold at times. Has anyone ever tried a closed loop system by filling a hose with water and using a pump (not submersible) and run it from the top of the condenser, outside and then back in to the bottom of the condenser. Letting the snow or cold weather cool the water in the hose? Dumb idea?

I ordered a new one and it failed as well. Brewhaus promptly replaced it. I am now concerned that I am going to have another failure now that I know it is relatively common.

What was going on with them. Were they leaking or just bad electrical? The only trouble I had with a pump was that it didn't have enough lift to run the reflux system. The second pump from BH pumped a lot more head.

Pumped fine for a while, then stop and go with a minute in between, then stopped all together.

I have one I left running for 24 hours w no problem. Duh!
Well unless too quiet is a problem.
Lift shouldn't be an issue once all the lines are filled and primed.
Helps to have the return submerged as well as the intake.

I duno. Maybe a temp sensitive connection inside.
Sound like me. I just don't like cold water.
My pump doesn't know the difference.
I'd say you need another pump as any repair would destroy the sealing and make it leak voltage .....a very bad thing.
