Has anyone tried to re-use or harvest yeast from an old wash to use on a new one? I do it with beer, but am curious if anyone has done it with a sugar mash. I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't work.

"Yes. It works just fine.

In fact thats a requisite technique for lots of proper rum and sour mash recipes."

I assume that nutrients must be added. Is that right?

Depends what your running. Plain table sugar wash needs nutrients for sure. Although Dr. Stone asserts that nutrients are not nessesary (in a laboratory setting with over pitched hybrid yeast).

No matter, can't hurt usually.

I recon the recycling started out of nessesity more than anything. Then folks just got partial to the flavor profile. Or not. What the heck do I knowConfused"

I'm planning on dumping a new batch on top of the yeast in the bucket.

By the ""yeast in the bucket"" you mean whats left over in the fermentor after you siphon off your wash?"
