Brendan,
PJ Lily here. You've had some grand advice this evening, and it sounds as if you're accepting it. This puts you into almost a league of your own at your age. Well done, young man.
Patience is one the key ingredients in this hobby. A five year practice of it well put you well ahead many of us and you'll still be half our age. Ok, you'll be way ahead of ME and half MY age. Nonetheless, hats off to you, and we'll see you at 21.
I, as John, raise a glass to you.
Sincerely yours,
PJ Lily

brenden,
wow, i commend you buddy and fellow hobbyist. when i was yer age, i never would've told my secret. you seem to have alot of interests. that's a good thing. at least where i'm from not too many people yer age are interested in anything they actually have to work at. alot of our youth are lazy and don't want to have to do any work fer anything. and i'm happy to see a young man not scared to get a little dirt on thier hands. i will have to agree with the others about waiting till you turn 21. and i'll honestly say that i'll be honored if'n i can get an invite to yer 21st birthday party. but i wonder and have to ask one question. and if you don't want to answer that's ok. but many parents would be against there 16 year old making and operating a still. why doesn't yers???? now i don't want you to think i'm coming down on you or yer parents. 'cause i'm not. i was just wondering. some of my youngest and fondest memories are helping my grandpa making wine and homebrew when i was very young. i've been around stuff all my life so it wasn't much of a shocker. and since i've been around stuff alot i've learned alot about moderation. although i test myself from time to time. just to keep myself in check. yeah right, 'cause i get carried away. but really making maple syrup, planting crops, beekeeping, beer, wine, or distilling is very fullfilling and fun hobbies. but alot of work. i commend you fer taking up great hobbies instead of what so many of our youth go through. the drugs, crime, and inevitable demise of what they could've been. i know that you will get help from this forum. and stay strong and focused.

Brenden:

I just want to put something out here. As someone three and an half times your age, and retired, I have the foresight of hindsight. I wish I'd had the passion you show in this hobby at your age. If I had, I would have made this my career. I don't know what your career plans are, and I don't know what your parents plans for you are, but my advice is to buckle down in school and apply yourself, especially in sciences and chemistry. Then next year when you are looking at colleges think about UC Davis. They have an excellent program in brewing. There are many many brewpubs across this country that are adding 'micro distillation' to their product line. A young man like yourself with an interest this early could go very far in the business.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers.

Brendan,
PJ Lily here again. Elricko's right about UC Davis. It's in my neck of the woods and has produced many fine brewmasters and winemakers to all over the country. I worked in one the oldest microbreweries in the country and it was a blast. There are also a number of distilleries in my surrounding area which make the whole place pretty cool, in my mind. Research UC Davis. And besides, if you have your 21st in California, it'll be closer to me!
Stay well.
Yours,
PJ Lily

ok I will defiantly be reading up about UC Davis it dose sound like a blast. But I am not sure we will have to find out where every one is located when I am 20 and we can go from their but ya that would just make that year I would love to have a celebration of my 21st birthday with all of you wounder full people and about the parents well buzzman my mom knows and trys to keep me out of distilling and she throwout my still I made when I was 13 but lol I don't blame her it was a peace of crap but worked alright............but I mean I am not an alcoholic here I keep it at a defiant moderation here but again I just think this is a wonderful hobby to be in.

Brendan,
A still at 13!?! I don't think I could even find my pants at 13.
Be nice to your mother, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that we look forward to HER stories as well!
Again, be nice to your mother.
Yours,
PJ Lily

Hey I did all the soldering I plan to do in my lifetime back when I got drafted in 1969.

Brenden, If UC davis is too far there is also the Seibel Institute in Chicago.
