Hey All,
Pictures of oats will follow, either tonight or tomorrow. She knows how to put 'em into the computer, I don't!
So the airlocks in the two 25 liter buckets stopped about 36 hours ago. Today I racked off both buckets in a third, filling it up to 30+ liters. I don't have any more super kleer on me and I want to distill this evening, so I hope mere gravity will do its thing.
Into the two fermentators I added spring water to 15 liters and added another 3# of dextrose, bringing both up to just shy of 16 liters.
After distillation I will add 9# more of dextrose and bring the levels up to 25 liters each with the oat backset. The gravity of the third bucket was below .0100. I almost couldn't read it...
And that's it. I have 4 quarts from the last batch that I ran until 92C. So if that stays good I should have another four tonight. The plan is to do another two distillations and then my fifth being a spirit run. I may steal a quart to share because I have to be somewhere first week of April.
Ok, ok. So yes I DID try some. And yes, it is already amazing. A light and sweet distillate. I am eagerly looking forward to barreling it and TRYING to forget about it for a month.
Is anyone still doing an oat batch? Maybe barreling a single run?
As I said, photos will follow with a repeat of the above information.
Yours,
PJ Lily

p.s. it would be so cool if I could add a succesful oat sour mash recipe to the forum!
p.p.s. the photos will include shots of my secret racking tool...

Sorry they're late!
All the photos you've been waiting for. Sorry they're so big. My IT team will be working on it. Does anyone have any advice on keeping the photos small?

This is the amount of oats that were floaters after fermentation stopped.

Racking off into third bucket. Note orange distilling chair. Very important.

Another shot of the amount of oats left over.

You can just see my secret racking tool...

Ta Da!! My secret racking tool revealed! the top of the turkey boiling pot miraculously fits right atop the oats, allowing just the liquid to come around its edges. Cool, huh?

So this the amount of wash I left. the last time I pushed down too hard and got too much lees.

This is the amount with which I charged the boiler - 30 liters.

This is just before distilling - before I have any backset to use ,does anyone else call it backwash?,, when I have filled it with 3# of dextrose and water to 15 liters.
And that's it so far. Distilled the 30 liters and got 6 liters of distillate after 500ml of heads smelling distillate. Then 9# more of dextrose and backset to 25 liters. Both buckets now happily bubbling away.
Gotta Run.
Yours,
PJ Lily

PJ- I reduced the size of your photos for you, so that they can be viewed normally. You should be able to open your photos in any image editing software and reduce the size before uploading them. Even MS Paint ,if you are running Windows, will do the trick.

Rick,
Thanks so much! I'm slowly getting the hang of this.
